Tokyo Service Center News - July 2011 |
| An Office With a Great View by Bill Watanabe |
When I was a young man in the 1960's attending Waseda University in Japan as part of an exchange program, I had my first experience in tasting the Japanese rice wine called "sake". It seemed like back then, there were only three kinds of sake - cheap, medium, and expensive! As a student, I usually only tried the cheap or medium variety and wondered what the expensive brand was like. It is hard to believe that now, there are literally hundreds of different kinds of sake at various levels of cost. Just like the huge variety available in the wine industry, sake can now be tailored to taste, temperature, mood, and to accompany different kinds of food.
The LTSC annual fundraising event (which I am told is one of the more enjoyable events of the year!) will feature a food and sake-tasting adventure, in conjunction with our great partners at Mutual Trading Company who will provide all of the sake. If you have never experienced an LTSC Food & Sake Tasting event, this year will be a must with a collection of terrific foods from the best chefs/eateries in the City - please see the information in this newsletter about the event.
Please note that LTSC does not promote any abuse or over-use of alcohol (or of eating for that matter), but to enjoy and enhance a dining pleasure. Best wishes and thanks for your support. |
