GOING GREENER
LTSC has been building affordable housing for 20 years - which you might call "green housing" because every month it saves our low income residents a lot of the "green stuff" (i.e. money!). For example, rent at our Casa Heiwa apartment building can be as low as 1/3 found anywhere else on the open market!
Now, because of a major grant from the Enterprise Community Partners and the Los Angeles Housing Department (utilizing federal ARRA funds), our Casa Heiwa building will the first pilot project in the City to undergo major energy-conservation upgrades which will help to make our building doubly GREEN - that is, more energy efficient and better for our environment, and saving more of the "green stuff" in operational costs and in energy costs for each resident!
Thanks Enterprise and LAHD for your support- and please see the special article below about this grant. |

Larry Reed (HSBC) Terri Ludwig (Enterprise) Doug Guthrie (LAHD) Bill Watanabe (LTSC) Gladys Gallardo (Casa Heiwa resident) and Kim Tachiki (Office of Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard) cut the green ribbon and officially start the greening of Casa Heiwa.

The Los Angeles Housing Department, Enterprise Community Partners, Inc. and LTSC celebrated the launch of the Los Angeles Multifamily Retrofit Pilot Program with a “green-breaking” at Casa Heiwa last month. This pilot program will provide energy retrofits to LTSC’s Casa Heiwa, Angelina Apartments in Echo Park and the San Pedro Firm Building in Little Tokyo.
With funding from the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Program of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, over 1,000 apartments in 14 other affordable apartment buildings located throughout the City of Los Angeles will also be retrofitted to improve energy efficiency by at least 20 percent. Upgrades will vary depending on each building, but will include high efficiency heat pumps, solar hot water heating pumps, Energy Star appliances, solar water heating, roof replacement, window replacement and more. |
LTSC is proud that Casa Heiwa will be the first property in the program to undergo retrofit upgrades including efficient lighting, plumbing fixtures, and appliances that will lower utility bills and reduce the carbon footprint of the community.
LTSC thanks Los Angeles Housing Department and Enterprise Community Partners for their support. These grants will enhance our ability to provide quality affordable housing in our community and at the same time make our world a little greener.

| Union Bank Foundation |
Since 1996, LTSC has worked to increase the production of affordable housing in Southern California low-income communities, and to strengthen the capacity of community based organizations that serve them. As the lead agency of the Affordable Housing Collaborative LTSC works with other community-based organizations to (1) help such organizations build multifamily affordable housing projects that serve their communities and (2) increase the capacity of the organizations to engage in future housing development.
Union Bank Foundation is supporting our role in increasing affordable housing in low-income ethnic enclaves that have traditionally served as entry points, providing jobs, business opportunities and housing to new immigrants and low-income households. Recently Union Bank Foundation provided LTSC’s Affordable Housing Collaborative a grant to continue working with other community based organizations to provide affordable housing throughout Los Angeles. |

|
LTSC would like to thank Union Bank Foundation for its support of our mutual goal of providing housing in our community. |
