Resident Services Volunteer-Intern Program

The Resident Services Department of Little Tokyo Service Center (LTSC CDC) seeks to intake, train and develop volunteers who will provide critical services to its residents and community members.

LTSC is a fast-paced nonprofit organization with over 130 employees. It has been "helping people and building community" for 36 years providing service to over 10,000 people each year. LTSC carries out a wide range of programs including social services, childcare, economic development and building affordable housing. LTSC provides affordable housing and resident services for families, the working poor, seniors, formerly homeless, transition aged youth and other special needs populations.

Resident Services, a department within LTSC provides a wide variety of programs to tenants of LTSC’s affordable housing. Because of this, volunteers who participate through the department will have many different options in pursuing their interests or developing their skill sets. The programs for the Resident Services Department focuses on four main areas:

1)Youth Program - Volunteers who participate in youth program activities can engage with youth from a number of different ages and settings. Program activities can include tutoring, mentoring, college prep workshops, after school programs, and teen group.

2)Financial Literacy - Participants of our financial literacy programs will help affordable housing families achieve economic self-sufficiency and asset growth. Program activities can include finance education workshops, financial counseling, and tax assistance or preparation (VITA).

3)Civic Engagement - Volunteers work on projects that encourage community members and residents to become civically engaged in their community. Program activities can include canvassing, phone banking, voter registrations, community outreach, and voter education workshops.

4)Other Resident Services - The Resident Services Department also assists community members and residents in many other ways. Volunteers who perform other resident services may assist in senior programming, case management, holding resident/community meetings, etc.

While experience is a plus, our volunteer program welcomes volunteers of all different backgrounds, work/volunteer experiences, and ages.
