Resident Services Volunteer for Financial Literacy Program

Help Build Stronger Communities with Financial Fitness

Little Tokyo Service Center has developed a "Financial Capability and Asset Building Program" for residents of our low-income and affordable-housing projects.  This program, first implemented last year as "financial literacy", is important for everyone, and we wanted to have accessible resources for our residents.  Many of our residents are monolingual, so having resources available in various languages is crucial.

With expenses growing much faster than income over the past 20 years, there is a greater chance of falling into a cycle of debt, especially for low-income individuals.

Workshops have been held in the past to assist residents with all aspects of financial literacy - budgeting, opening bank accounts, personal finance skills, etc.  These workshops have proved successful as we had many residents increase their savings and become more confident with their personal finances.

We are looking for volunteers to:

- Lead workshops for families and individuals based on their financial literacy needs.

- Examples of workshops include:

  • Developing a monthly household budget
  • Reducing credit card debt
  • Enrolling in education or additional training
  • Opening bank accounts

Empower residents to gain knowledge and increase their financial opportunities!

English speaking and bilingual volunteers needed (Spanish, Korean, Japanese, Chinese) and while no previous financial experience is necessary, it is a plus!
