LTSCene - August 2015

Every month we will feature milestones in LTSC’s 35-year history
From LTSRA...
LTSC has a long history of working with the residents of Little Tokyo to improve our neighborhood. In 2000, LTSC helped establish the Little Tokyo Senior Residents Association (LTSRA), which has lobbied for crosswalks, a post office and affordable housing and against bail bonds businesses. LTSRA has also organized the community around transit issues including Gold Line safety and the Regional Connector route.
...to Sustainability
LTSC continues to work with the community to build a Sustainable Little Tokyo that reduces greenhouse gas, promotes the local economy and preserves our cultural heritage.
Sake on the Rocks
Over 700 guests attended Sake on the Rocks on Friday, July 24 at the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center Plaza. LTSC’s 9th Annual Sake & Food Tasting Event featured dozens of different sake and a variety of food selections.

Long Term Care Workshop
A free educational workshop for Asian American seniors and their caregivers on long term care will be held on:

Saturday, August 29, 2015
2:00-3:30 pm
Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute

As baby boomers continue to age, the need for long-term care services is expected to increase dramatically, but many Americans are not financially prepared to pay for it. Long-term care (extended stays in a nursing home or in-home caregivers) is generally not covered by health insurance or Medicare.

The California Partnership for Long-Term Care will discuss ways to use long-term care policies to plan for your future needs. The program will be presented in English with simultaneous interpretation in Japanese.
The event is open to the public and free parking will be available. Pre-registration is required for admission to the seminar. Register online or call LTSC at 213-473-3035.

Go Little Tokyo
Go Little Tokyo is a community-led effort aimed at highlighting the unique cultural programs, community events, and dining and shopping experiences found in Little Tokyo. As one of Los Angeles’ most vibrant cultural hubs, there is an abundance of destinations and landmarks in and around this historic walkable neighborhood, and Go Little Tokyo will help you uncover them.
Go Little Tokyo is a long term collaboration with local partners to provide an accessible resource that celebrates the community’s many assets and shares information with the public through a one-stop-shop website, social media outlets, self guided neighborhood tours, promotional materials, and graphic way-finding signage throughout the neighborhood.
As Los Angeles transforms and expands its mass transit system and Little Tokyo becomes even more connected through the construction of Metro’s Regional Connector, there is no better moment to Go Little Tokyo and discover (or re-discover) one of Los Angeles’ most historically rich and energetic urban neighborhoods.
Go Little Tokyo is a Little Tokyo Community Council (LTCC) project developed and produced by Community Arts Resources (CARS) and made possible with support from Metro.
