Every month we will feature milestones in LTSC’s 35-year history
San Pedro Firm Building
When LTSC bought The San Pedro Firm Building in 1989 it was threatened with demolition. After a $3 million renovation completed in 1992 it now provides 42 units of safe, clean, affordable housing.

Casa Yonde
Since that first housing project, LTSC has built over 800 units of affordable housing in Los Angeles. Our most recent project is “Casa Yonde” completed in January with KIWA in Koreatown. Because more experienced groups helped LTSC with its first housing project, LTSC is paying it forward by teaching community organizations how to develop affordable housing in their own neighborhoods.
Utility Boxes
Art & Sustainable Little Tokyo
LTSC, the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center, Little Tokyo Community Council and Councilmember Jose Huizar came together to bring utility box art installations to Little Tokyo. These pictures do not do the art justice. Come to Little Tokyo to see them in person at:
Temple St. @ Los Angeles St., San Pedro St., and Alameda St.
First St. @ Los Angeles St., San Pedro St., and Central Ave.
Second St. @ Central Ave.
Third St. @ Los Angeles St., Central Ave., and San Pedro St.
This project was funded by LISC Los Angeles.
Thank you for helping us create a Sustainable Little Tokyo!
Debra Nakatomi New Chair of LTSC Board of Directors
LTSC would like to announce that Debra Nakatomi is the new Chair of our Board of Directors. We are honored that Debra has stepped into this leadership position for LTSC. She is a long-standing member of our board and is committed to the mission and goals of our organization. Debra succeeds Alan Nishio who served as Chair since 2003. Alan will chair LTSC’s Board of Governors.

Nikkei Widowed Association decided to close its doors at the end of last year after 35 years of providing members with friendship and support. The group donated remaining funds to LTSC’s BoLA project.
Partners in Progress
Partners in Progress announced a new year of funding for LTSC and the other original PIP grantees. In 2014, the Citi Foundation and the Low Income Investment Fund launched the Partners in Progress initiative to advance economic progress in low-income communities. With this continuation of the program, Partners in Progress has become a national laboratory for creating “collective impact” to address intergenerational poverty at the neighborhood level.
