Casa Yonde: A bright and healthy home

LTSC and the Koreatown Immigrant Workers Alliance (KIWA) celebrated the grand opening of Casa Yonde, New Hampshire Family Housing project.  Casa Yonde, which means “House and Alliance” replaces 26 obsolete aging housing units with 52 brand new green, healthy homes.  Casa Yonde will be a place where people come together in all their diversity, creating a unity and synergy greater than the sum of its parts. Casa Yonde serves as a model for neighborhood-based investments and is outstanding example of how the affordable housing industry in Los Angeles can transform communities and help people in need.

In October 1980, LTSC began providing social services to the Japanese American community with one bilingual case manager, Yasuko Sakamoto, who helped monolingual seniors in Little Tokyo and others throughout LA.

...Today, LTSC has 18 social workers providing information & referral, community outreach/education, advocacy, senior services, mental health counseling, domestic violence counseling and case management in 5 languages to thousands of people to address emerging needs in our community.

Yasuko, now Director of Social Services, continues her work at LTSC because, "the needs for culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate services and the stigma associated with social services, especially mental health services, still exist in our community as Asians are traditionally reticent to seek help with personal problems. Our goal is to increase the accessibility of these services in the community."

Strong Partnerships to build Affordable Housing

LTSC is proud to be a special partner with JPMorgan Chase in our endeavors to build affordable housing.  Chase has provided LTSC with a line of credit that we can access when developing our low-income housing projects. This low interest loan is vital to our ability to build affordable housing projects in Los Angeles.  LTSC wishes to thank Chase for its partnership and its belief in our program.

Donate Your Old Car to LTSC

Donating your vehicle is free and easy, just ask one of our recent donors:

This was the third time we donated a car to LTSC, and each time was a positive experience. We got information on the process quickly, and things went on as stated. The towing away was conducted in a professional and kind manner. We felt we were giving something of sentimental value to our family to an organization that would help find some good use for it. We received timely feedback once it was sold. This is one experience I would share with my family and friends if they are considering a donation. -R.A.
